Mets Call Up Baty; Carrasco and Guillorme Out Multiple Weeks
Some good news and some bad news for the New York Mets.
The good news: New York called up their number two prospect, third baseman Brett Baty to the Major League squad. The move was part of a flurry of moves the Mets made over the past 24 hours after (here’s the bad news) both Luis Guillorme and Carlos Carrasco hit the injury list for multiple weeks.
Guillorme will miss the next four to six weeks with a groin strain that, according to MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo, could sideline the utility infielder for the rest of the regular season.
The Mets had to summon veteran Deven Marrero from Triple-A Syracuse to take Guillorme’s roster spot.
Meanwhile, Carrasco was placed on the injury list for the next three to four weeks as he recovers from a low grade left oblique strain. He could still be back before the regular season is out. Carrasco injured himself in the Mets 13-1 loss to Atlanta on Monday night, lasting only two innings. While there was a lengthy rain delay after the second inning, Buck Showalter said that the injury was not the result of the long break.
Moreover, Tomas Nido hit the injury list for a non-baseball related illness.
As a result, the Mets called up catcher Michael Perez, whom they acquired from the Pittsburgh Pirates before the trade deadline. Perez was starting for the Mets on Tuesday night.
In addition to those moves, the Mets called up reliever R.J. Alvarez and Baty. Alvarez had to come into the game on Tuesday after Taijuan Walker injured himself covering first base in the second inning of the Mets game at Atlanta.
"I was gonna tell you we called up Alvarez, and we have" 😂

Baty is expected to be activated to the Major League roster on Wednesday. He has been enjoying a tremendous year at both Double-A Binghamton and Triple-A Syracuse. Baty hit .312 with 19 homers and 59 RBI at Binghamton, and was hitting .364 at Triple-A before his callup.
Fox Sports New Jersey interviewed Baty when the Rumble Ponies were in Somerset to play the Patriots.
