Yankees to Retire Paul O’Neill’s Number 21

On 02-22-22 Paul O’Neill became the 22nd Yankee to have his number retired.
The Yankees will officially retire O’Neil’s number on August 21, 2022 when the Yankees are scheduled to play host to the Toronto Blue Jays.
In a 17-year career split between the Cincinnati Reds and Yankees, O’Neill spent nine years in the Bronx from 1993 to 2001. He hit .303 with 185 home runs and 858 RBI in 1254 games as a Yankees, and was an integral part of New York’s four consecutive World Series titles from 1996 to 2000. O’Neill was also a member of the 1990 Reds, who swept the Oakland A’s in that year’s World Series.
O’Neill, who is now a color analyst on the YES Network was known as a tough as nails player during his playing days. He was beloved by fans, and always wore his emotions on his sleeve. Let’s take a look back!
