Giants Set to Interview Joe Schoen For Second Time for Vacant GM Post
The Giants made it through their first round of interviews for their vacant general manager’s post, and they are welcoming back Buffalo Bills Assistant GM Joe Schoen back for a second interview.
This is a very interesting development, since Schoen is believed to be one of the favorites to get a job somewhere in the NFL this hiring season. The Giants are reportedly meeting with Schoen today at the team facility, after meeting with him a week ago over Zoom.
Schoen has been working in Buffalo as the right-hand man to Bills top executive Branden Beane since 2017. Together they drafted quarterback Josh Allen in 2018, and oversaw a total roster overhaul that turned the Bills from annual AFC East bottom dwellers into a perennial Super Bowl contender the past two seasons. The Bills are visiting the Kansas City Chiefs this weekend in the AFC Divisional playoffs.
While he has no direct connections to the Giants, Schoen comes highly recommended by former Giants head coach Bill Parcells, with whom Schoen worked for in 2008 while with the Miami Dolphins as a scout. In fact, Schoen also worked under former Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum, when Tannenbaum was the GM of the Dolphins from 2014 – 17.
Many rumors are swirling that if Schoen is indeed hired by the Giants to become their next General Manager, he could be targeting Buffalo Bills Offensive Coordinator Brian Daboll to be his head coach. Daboll, a long time assistant with the New England Patriots, before heading to Buffalo in 2018 as offensive coordinator, has been credited with turning Josh Allen into an All-Pro quarterback.
Report: If hired by the #Giants for the GM position, Joe Schoen’s number one target will be Brian Daboll to become the HC per source.

Bills assistant GM Joe Schoen is going through his second interview with the Giants today in East Rutherford, per sources. Obviously, this is a sign the GM process there is accelerating a bit.

Schoen landing that job also could put Bills OC Brian Daboll in play for New York.
Another name out there for head coach could be ex-Dolphins head coach Brian Flores, but if rumors are true that he wants to be linked up with troubled NFL quarterback Deshaun Watson, who is still in a legal battle over 22 sexual assault allegations, it would be very-unlike the Giants to go that route when there are potential legal pitfalls.
#Texans QB Deshaun Watson has expressed a strong desire internally to play for the #Giants, ideally with Brian Flores coaching. #TogetherBlue
