Jones was injured in New York’s Week 12 match-up with the Philadelphia Eagles. Since Jones’ departure from the lineup the Giants are 0-3, and managed to score only 36 points combined in the those three games, or 12.0 points per game.
Mike Glennon and Jake Fromm both have struggled under center. But this is a Giants team that has been pretty banged up with injuries all season long.
Jones’ future is now going to come into question. The Giants are expected to make a decision on Jones’ fifth year option, which will be a $20 million cap hit in 2023. While Jones has shown flashes the past three seasons, it’s fair to say it hasn’t been enough to say for certain he is a franchise quarterback.
His future could also be connected to whom the Giants General Manager and Head Coach will be. David Gettleman is expected to step aside. Joe Judge could return as Head Coach. Asked about Jones’ future Judge said:
“Yeah, I’ve seen enough growth from Daniel to tell us he’s a guy we want to go ahead and play with,” Judge said. “In terms of the business aspect of it and different things, I’ll let different departments in this organization handle that stuff. I’ll coach the players.
“When it comes down to Daniel our concern right now is getting him back and healthy and getting him prepared for next year.”
