What is being labeled as an "adrenaline-fueled reimagining", Road House takes a dip into the world of Mixed Martial Arts.
What We Know
Jake Gyllenhaal, reviving the famous "Dalton" name, is an ex-UFC fighter in need of work. He keeps the same Swayze swagger as the original until it's time to throw a punch.
He eventually takes a job as a bouncer at a roadhouse in the Florida Keys.
As we all know, doing some good always angers the wrong people. A big shot wants to get rid of the roadhouse to make room for a getaway resort he is building. To do that, some goons get sent to deal with Dalton. Enter Mcgregor.
"Dont Let No One Get This Close"
What seems to be a case of art imitating life, McGregor walks into the trailer with a club and smashes up the joint, looking for Dalton. This is a position Conor is all too familiar with, often playing the villain in the lead-up to his fights with the UFC.
All too similar to his character portrayal, Conor is infamous for his attack on a bus that was holding divisional rival, Khabib Nurmagomedov. Conor is filmed throwing a hand truck at the window of the bus. Controversy sells fights, and UFC used that as a promotional gold to promote Nurmagomedov vs Mcgregor.

Mcgregor character confronts Dalton and offers him some advice. "Don't let no one get this close" and promptly headbutts, and a brawl ensues. McGregor appears to have regular appearances throughout the movie. A second, more violent fight between him and Gyllenhaal's Dalton happens later in the trailer.

Making The Movie
Filming for the movie, Gyllenhaal made a surprise appearance at UFC 285. What was supposed to be a routine weigh-in for the PPV became a film set, as Gyllenhaal's Dalton stepped on the scale and challenged the middleweight champion. The champion is being played by UFC Veteran Jay Heiron, who in his own right worked on a lot of action sets, like Equalizer 2.
The video of a shredded Gyllenhaal captured by MMA Junkie can be seen here.
While reimaginings are polarizing in the film world, causing a divide between fandoms, McGregor's acting debut already has fans buzzing. The Road House movie is set for release on Prime Video on March 21.
Celebrate Muhammad Ali’s Birthday With These Highlights
Muhammed Ali would have celebrated his 82nd on January 17th.
Very few athletes can boast the title of undisputed GOAT in their sport. One boxer, however, left no room for debate over who is the best. Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr., aka Muhammad Ali, is not only the greatest boxer of all time but one of the best athletes in history and one of the most recognizable figures in American culture. Born in 1942 in Louisville, Kentucky Ali came from humble beginnings. Ali began his boxing career at just 12 years old on the advice of coach Joe E. Martin.
From there he found immediate success, with an amateur record of 100 wins and 5 losses Ali won Olympic gold in 1960 just before making his professional debut. Ali faced the toughest competition in his professional bouts. High-profile opponents include George Foreman, Joe Frazier, and Sonny Liston. With an impressive record of 56 wins and 5 losses, he went undefeated for the first decade of his career. Only two athletes hold wins over Ali that were not avenged in rematches, Larry Holmes and Trevor Berbick. Despite a few losses Ali was the first fighter to win the world heavyweight title three separate times, and defended his title 19 times.
Lesser known bouts include three entertaining exhibition bouts that Ali partook in. Two of which here against former NHL and NFL players. One of Ali's least known but most influential bouts was a 1976 exhibition match against Antonio Inoki. Inoki was a Japanese wrestler and martial artist. Although Ali was not happy with the match and it ultimately ended in an uninteresting draw, it foreshadowed the rise of mixed martial arts. While today major organizations such as the UFC feature mixed-style bouts, Ali was a boxing wrestler nearly 50 years ago!
In addition to his impressive boxing resume, Ali is also remembered as a cultural icon and activist. He was even awarded the Philadelphia Liberty Medal for his lifelong contributions to philanthropy and activism.
