And now it is down to one must win game on Saturday.

The New York Mets 2022 season that had once been so promising has now come down to this. The Amazin's were dominated by the San Diego Padres 7-1 at Citi Field in Game 1 of the NL Wild Card Series, as Max Scherzer couldn't get out of the fifth inning having been charged with seven runs on seven hits.

Scherzer served up four home runs over the course of the night. A two-run bomb to Josh Bell in the first inning was the opening salvo. The back-breaker came on a three-run shot by Jurickson Profar that pushed the Padres up 6-0. Manny Machado's solo shot sent Scherzer to the showers under a cascade of boos from the Mets faithful.

The Padres can eliminate the Mets tomorrow night with a win.

Max Scherzer talks about Game 1 Loss

Max Scherzer's performance was the worst of his career in the postseason. The closest he came to the ERA he had on Friday night, you'd have to go back to 2011 when he had a 9.72 ERA in two starts for the Detroit Tigers in the ALCS against Texas.
