Amazon & Apple + Coming After Yankees & Mets Games
Here is a story that is sure to leave a number of New York Yankees and New York Mets fans queasy and leery as they reach for their wallets.
That is because fans in the New York market are going to start seeing their beloved games disappear off television with their only access to view them coming via streaming.
On Thursday the New York Post reported that 21 regular season Yankees games that would have been broadcasted on PIX 11, will now be broadcast exclusively on Amazon Prime, and will only be available in the New York market, according to Andrew Marchand.
According to reports, the partnership is actually a decision made on the part of the Yankees. Amazon will basically carry the YES broadcast on its stream.
And, yes that means fans will have to pay for it. Amazon membership is $14.99 or $139 a year. Amazon Prime Video membership is $8.99 a month or roughly $108 a year.
Add that to the cost of your other streamers like Netflix ($15.49 a month for standard membership, $19.99 for premium membership), Hulu ($12.99 a month for content with no ads); Apple TV+ ($4.99 a month), as well as the slew of other streamers that we seemingly all must have in order to stay hip and up to date on the latest entertainment, and the costs just keep adding up.
The reaction to the news is pretty mixed. Many are upset about having to fork over money for games that would have been on cable, others are confused, and there are those who are excited and ready for the inevitable future of live broadcast television.
And that’s not all, Apple TV+ is going to stream Friday games as well this year, with the first 12 weeks of the season coming as free. This is part of a partnership between Major League Baseball and Apple. The first MLB telecast via Apple TV+ will be the Mets-Nationals game on April 8, which is expected to be the Mets debut of Max Scherzer.
Want to watch it on SNY or MLB.TV? Can’t. It’s exclusive only to Apple TV+ for that night’s game. The good part of the Apple package is it’s free, at least for the first 12 weeks of the season.

@Yankees You have got to be joking. Now I need to subscribe to Amazon Prime to see Yankee games. I already pay extra to see YES network, I pay extra to see the games on MLB Extra Innings. Now you add this. You are shameless.

Having to explain to my 71 year old father that he needs to watch 21 Yankees games on Amazon might be one of the toughest conversations I ever have with this poor man
