DEVILS 4 - KINGS 3
It took overtime, but the New Jersey Devils pulled off a thriller against the L.A. Kings, storming back from a 2-0 deficit to score four of the next five goals in the contest.
Dawson Mercer netted two goals in the victory including the game winner some two-and-a-half minutes into the overtime to send New Jersey to its 21st come-from-behind win of the year.
Tomas Tatar and Nico Hischier also scored for the Devils, with Hischier scoring the tying goal with 39 seconds to go in the contest.
“I think obviously you can say we’re never out of it,” said Mercer. “We've got a talented group in here, a team that plays with that speed, and we’re never out of a game. I think we can create constant pressure.”
Meanwhile the Devils got a little bit of help from the Detroit Red Wings who took down the New York Rangers 4-1 on Thursday night.
With Igor Shesterkin getting the night off, back-up goaltender Jaroslav Halak struggled in net giving up four goals on 23 shots.
Offensively the Rangers struggled again. After managing only one goal on 51 shots earlier this week, the Blue Shirts had 31 shots on goal on Thursday and managed only one goal again.
New York has now lost three straight and is six points behind the Devils for second place in the Metro Division. The Devils, meanwhile, remain three points back of first place Carolina.
