Through the years, many parents have said that their kids are "addicted" to video games. Whatever the game system, kids can spend the majority of their day, almost all of their time playing one of the many available systems. No doubt one of these consoles appears on the Christmas list of most kids throughout the planet. Some considered the best and most popular consoles are Nintendo Switch OLED, Xbox Series X, and Playstation 5. So, if you're shopping, searching, or wondering which one to gift your kids, one of these should work well...maybe too well.
According to a lawsuit filed in Canada, you may want to reconsider that purchase this holiday season. According to BBC News, some parents are claiming that the video game Fortnite is so addictive that their kids are no longer sleeping, showering, eating, or doing much of anything else because they're so dependent on the game.
Canadian Supreme Court Justice Sylvain Lussier has given the go-ahead for these Quebecer parents to move forward with their suit against the manufacturer of Fortnite, Epic Games. The ruling says, "The court concludes that there is a serious issue to be argued, supported by sufficient and specific allegations as to the existence of risks or even dangers arising from the use of Fortnite." The attorney for the parents said that the legal responsibility of Epic Games is the same as that of the tobacco companies, and the lawsuit notes that in 2018 the World Health Organization recognized video game addiction. The judge concurred with the tobacco addiction comparison, "The harmful effect of tobacco was not recognized or admitted overnight."
Epic Games released a statement that stated they have "industry-leading parental controls that empower parents to supervise their child's digital experience...Parents can receive playtime reports that track the amount of time their child plays each week, and require parental permission before purchases are made." However, the court did not agree with the claim "Epic Games deliberately made Fortnite addictive." Epic Games plans to fight the lawsuit in court.
The Top 6 Upcoming Movies I’m Excited For
It's that time again this year when we look forward to some of the upcoming movies for the rest of 2022 and the start of the new year.
We've already had some absolutely amazing releases like the sequel Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and some films that may have not met fans' expectations like the latest Halloween film.
Though looking at the upcoming films I think it's safe to say we have a great lineup of possibly great movies.
Avatar: Way Of Water
The follow-up to the most successful box office movie in the history of cinema. Avatar: The Way of Water is doing very well in popularity charts with high projections. Now, will it take the throne from its older sibling? Well in reality it needs to score well both domestically and internationally if it wants that dream to become a reality. Avatar 2 is set to release this month on December 15th.
The Mario Movie
Ever since its announcement the Mario movie has been on everybody's mind. There's a reason for that as well seeing as fans of the Nintendo franchise have been begging for this for years and while their casting choices may have raised some alarm, the animation done by Illumination Studios is spot-on and more than enough to win me over. April 8th of next year is when we super jump over to theaters.
Inside
Starring Willem Dafoe this thriller turns luxury and turns it into tragedy. As we see a high-class art thief gets trapped with no escape after a job goes wrong. I'm highly excited for this not only because it's Willem Dafoe but also because I love phycology horrors like this. There's no big spooky creature just a man in a room. To see what happens to Dafoe's sanity we'll have to wait till March 10th.
Missing
We've seen the likes of Liam Neason and Jackie Chan taking names for the sake of their child, but what if the roles were reversed? Missing is an upcoming film about parents not returning from an overseas trip, instead of weapons and hand to hand combat actress Storm Reid, who must use the internet to solve the case. We won't have to wait too long as this drama hits screens on January 20th.
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny
Indi is back folk for one last adventure! Harrison Ford has been our iconic treasure hunter for over forty years and now next year it seems like the story will wrap up as Indiana Jones comes out on what appears to be his retirement for one last journey as the Space Race is a heavily important plot point. We will have to wait until June 2023 for the fifth installment of this cult classic to hit theaters.
Cocaine Bear
Yes, you read that right Cocaine Bear is an upcoming comedy thriller that takes inspiration from a real-life event! After some movie magic, we get the result of a bear being drugged out of its mind and going wild. I am so excited about this movie and based on what we've seen from the trailer it's going to be a hit.
