C. Vivian Stringer was more than a basketball coach. She was an institution.
For 27 years she patrolled the sidelines for Rutgers women’s basketball, leading the team to 17 NCAA Tournament appearances and an NIT Championship to boot. One could argue she helped to put Rutgers sports on the map with the work she did for women’s hoops, following in the footsteps of another Rutgers legend, Hall of Famer Theresa Grentz.
On Sunday Rutgers honored Coach Stringer before the club’s Big Ten clash with Ohio State.

Meanwhile it was a tough afternoon for the Scarlet Knights in the game against Ohio State with the Buckeyes prevailing 82-70. Rutgers played Ohio State tough all afternoon, but couldn’t overcome the 14-point deficit they found themselves in after the first quarter where Ohio State led 20-6.
Rutgers will face Illinois on Wednesday night.
