The New Jersey Devils are back at .500 thanks a dominant 4-1 victory over the New York Islanders on Thursday.
Jersey is 2-2 on the young season, two points behind the Rangers (3-1) for second place in the Metro Division following New York's 3-2 overtime loss to the San Jose Sharks. The Islanders are also 2-2 on the season.
The Devils were led by a pair of goals from Ondrej Palat, who connected on goals in the second and third periods as New Jersey built a 3-0 lead.
Jack Hughes gave New Jersey the early 1-0 lead with a goal via an assist from Damon Serverson less than two minutes into the second period.

No Fun for the Rangers
The Rangers unbeaten start to the season ended in overtime on Thursday. 49 seconds into OT to be exact when San Jose' Erik Karlsson netted the game winner for the Sharks.
"We tired to force a little too much"
The Rangers had a 2-1 lead thanks to goals from Flip Chytil and Artemi Panarin, but it wasn't enough as San Jose's Radim Simek knotted the game up at two late in the third period.
