Today (August 9th) is National Book Lovers Day! To celebrate, we’re highlighting 7 authors from our great state of New Jersey.

Now that we’ve brought this unofficial holiday to your attention, you can put down your smartphone and pick up a good book for an hour or even several (perhaps one written by one of the phenomenal authors below).

While there’s a chance you’ll know most or even all of the names below, their combined catalog has a good read for all ages. Over the years, some of these New Jersey authors’ books have even been adapted into films.

    George R.R. Martin was born in Bayonne, New Jersey. He received a B.S. in Journalism from Northwestern University and became a full-time writer in 1979.

    Martin is the author of the series of novels A Song of Ice and Fire, which was adapted into the HBO series Game of Thrones.
