Rutgers to Recognize 50 Years of Women’s Hoops
Rutgers will celebrate 50 years of women’s basketball at the University on Sunday, January 21 when Rutgers plays host to Michigan.
Tip-off between the two Big Ten rivals is at 2 p.m., and it figures to be a huge contest as Rutgers (6-14, 0-7) looks to capture its first Big Ten conference win of the year.
Moreover, it will be a day to honor a brilliant history of success. Rutgers will celebrate it’s historic milestone with pregame and halftime ceremonies that will include ringing in the inaugural class of the “Knights of Honor.”
The “Knights of Honor” will be immortalized — with specific focus on the 1982, 2000 and 2007 teams — at Jersey Mike’s Arena along with RU’s three retired jerseys – #45 June Olkowski, #33 Sue Wicks and #25 Cappie Pondexter.
Several alumni will be signing pregame autographs on the concourse, starting at 1:15 p.m. including Pat Coyle, Mary Coyle, Christina Fowler, Kathy Glutz, Theresa Grentz, Mauri Horton, Myia McCurdy, Maroita Theodoris, Brittany Ray, and Daniela Walsh.
Fans are encouraged to arrive early to their seats to enjoy the pregame festivities.
