It looks like it is going to be a long season for the New York Giants.  Big Blue's offense was again stagnant against, and couldn't measure up against one of the best teams in the NFL, falling to the San Francisco 49ers 30-12 in Santa Clara, Thursday night.

Without Saquon Barkley in the lineup, the Giants ran for only 29 yards. Meanwhile, Daniel Jones struggled to find open receivers to throw to; he finished the night with 137 yards passing, two sacks, and a pick.

Moreover, the loss to San Francisco marked the third straight game in which the Giants failed to score a touchdown in the first half. Big Blue managed to connect on only a pair of field goals, trailing San Fran 17-6 into the break.

The Giants have now been outscored by a whopping 63-6 in the first half of games this season.

There were a number of missed opportunities for the Giants. Big Blue was able to cut the deficit to five points, 17-12 in the third quarter when Matt Breida scored on an eight-yard run as the Giants took advantage of a huge pass interference penalty. But, it wasn't enough. The Niners quickly answered with a field goal on their ensuing possession.

Niners Keep Clicking:

On the flip side, the 49ers continue to look like a team poised for a deep playoff run later this coming winter.

Niners quarterback Brock Purdy looked the part of an MVP candidate yet again, tossing for 310 yards and two scores. His 27-yard strike to Deebo Samuel in tight single coverage on a go-route toward the end zone was picture-perfect and put the game away at 30-12.

Meanwhile, Christian McCaffery churned his way to 85 yards rushing including scoring untouched from four yards out to close out the first half scoring.

Next Week:

The Giants get to enjoy a much-needed mini-bye week. They will not play again until October 2 when they welcome the Seattle Seahawks into MetLife Stadium.
