The New York Rangers road the tie-breaking goal of Kaapo Kakko with 2:47 to go in the game to beat back their cross-town rivals the New York Islanders 5-3 on Thursday night at the Garden.
The Rangers entered the third period trailing the Isles 3-2 when Barclay Goodrow tied the game on an assist by Julian Gauthier some three minutes into the period.
That set up the heroic moment when Kakko took a beautiful feed from K'Andre Miller, then bounced the puck over the shoulder of Islanders goalie Ilya Sorokin to put the Rangers in front 4-3.
Vincent Trocheck closed out the scoring for the Rangers with an empty netter in the final 90 seconds.
Igor Shesterkin finished the night with 15 saves in net for the Blue Shirts.
