METS 8 - CUBS 0

It was certainly the friendly confines for the New York Mets on Thursday night.  The Amazin's opened up a four game weekend series in Chicago against their old rivals the Cubs, with an 8-0 victory.

Brandon Nimmo once again was the star of the show leading the Mets with three hits and a homerun. The blast by Nimmo came in the sixth inning to give the Amazin's a 6-0 lead. Pete Alonso would had his 24th homer of the year -- a two-run shot in the eighth that extended New York's lead to 8-0.

Francisco Lindor, who has been on a tear of late, lined a RBI double to open things up in the first inning. It was all Mets after that.

A three-run second inning was highlighted by a two-run double by catcher Pat Mazeika, an RBI single by Starling Marte and a RBI single by Eduardo Escobar.

Carlos Carrasco was phenomenal for the Mets. He blanked the Cubs on five hits over six innings to improve to 10-4 on the season. After a rough month of June, Carrasco is 2-0 with a 1.56 ERA in three starts in the month of July. The Mets are 3-0 in those games this month.
