Reading, Pennsylvania – New York Yankees top prospects delivered on an Opening Day win for the Somerset Patriots (1-0) over the Reading Fightin Phils (0-1) 6-2 at FirstEnergy Stadium on Friday evening.

Anthony Volpe went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI in his Double-A debut. He led off the game with a base hit and doubled in his next at bat. He came around to score on an RBI double by Elijah Dunham in the third inning to tie up the game.

Somerset took the lead on a run-scoring wild pitch and a sacrifice fly by Max Burt in the fourth inning.

The big hit of the game came off the bat of Josh Breaux, who hit a two-run line drive home run (1) in the top of the fifth for a 5-2 advantage.

Michael Beltre added two hits, a run and a stolen base on the night.

The final run of the game came on Volpe’s sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth.

Barret Loseke (1-0) earned the win on a night that the pitching staff allowed just one hit. He pitched 1.1 innings and recorded two strikeouts.
