Former New Jersey Broadcaster Kevin Burkhardt Named FOX’s Top NFL Play-by-Play Man
Fox Sports has found its replacement for Joe Buck for NFL Sundays this fall, and it will be Kevin Burkhardt.
Burkhardt, 48, will take over the top seat on NFL broadcasts for FOX after Buck left the network for a multi-year deal to be the voice of Monday Night Football on ESPN with Troy Aikman, who has called games with Buck the past 20 years.
Burkhardt has been with Fox since 2013 in a variety of roles including play-by-play for NFL games, and studio host for FOX’s Major League Baseball coverage. Burkhardt has had a well traveled career that started way back in the late 90s in New Jersey at WGHT 1500 in Pompton Lakes. The William Paterson graduate, was also the voice of New Jersey Jackals baseball in the late 90s when the franchise was just getting off the ground.
After working a number of years as a cars salesman he got his break into radio with CBS around 2004, and his career took off from there. First as a update guy and weekend host on WFAN, then he wound up as the sideline reporter for the New York Mets on SNY in 2007. He stayed in that role with the Mets until his big break with Fox came calling around 2013.
Reaction on Twitter was nothing but positive for Fox’s new face of NFL Sunday’s.
After 20 years of calling the @nflonfox I can’t tell you how excited I am for @kevinburkhardt to take over. He’s terrific on the air and a wonderful person. I could NOT be more excited for him and @foxsports. Go kill it Kevin! Glad to be your friend and out of your way! Well done
