With the surge of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 taking a firm hold in the state of New Jersey, and across the country and world, for that matter, Rutgers University is taking drastic steps to keep the spread of the virus down as much as possible as the spring semester is scheduled to begin January 18.
Remote/virtual instruction will be in place, where possible, through January 30, and all students and employees who are eligible for the COVID-booster shot must get it.
In addition, student on-campus move-in dates have been shifted to January 29, and dining halls will only serve food on a take-out basis until January 31.
Employees of Rutgers University and its satellite campuses are strongly encouraged to work remotely through January 31.
Vaccination proof or a negative COVID-19 PCR test within 72 hours is required to attend any on-campus event or in-person activities, which are expected to resume on January 31.
Quarantine time for COVID-exposed or COVID-positive employees has been modified to five days to fit the CDC's recently changed recommendation.
Rutgers is not the only campus in the Tri-State area to make this request. CUNY and SUNY schools as well as Hofstra University are requiring booster shots for its students, faculty and staff.
