Sweeney In Danger of Losing Election to Truck Driver
If the gubernatorial election didn’t offer enough drama, how about the fight for State Senate in District 3?
That is where long-time Senator Steve Sweeney finds himself in a battle for his political life against a virtual unknown, Edward Durr.
While nothing is official — yet — Durr is on the precipice of defeating Sweeney, who has been on the Senate representing Cumberland, Gloucester and Salem Counties for 17 years. He has been Senate President since 2010. And Durr is about to do it having spent only $153 on his campaign, which included a Dunkin Donuts run.
In fact, Durr raised a little south of $10,000 for his campaign.
According to NorthJersey.com, Durr has a 2,229 vote lead on Sweeney with 100 percent of precincts reporting.
Durr, a commercial truck driver, is the latest example of American’s in New Jersey, and around the country, who are fed up with the status quo. Even Durr’s running mates Bethanne McCarthy Patrick and Beth Sawyer, also appear poised to take down Democratic incumbents John Burzichelli and Adam Taliaferro for a pair of State Assembly seats in South Jersey, according to an article on Philly Voice.
The news has caught the attention of the nation, as Twitter is on fire over this story.
Even though Murphy (D) eked out a statewide win, Dems' collapse in blue-collar parts of South Jersey is breathtaking - including State Senate President Steve Sweeney (D) currently trailing a truck driver who spent $153. #NJGOV
