STARS 4 – DEVILS 1

The Devils are in the midst of their first real down stretch of the season, having dropped a 4-1 decision to the Dallas Stars Tuesday night, New Jersey’s third consecutive loss. New Jersey’s defense and goaltending which has been so good all season long, has now given up 14 goals in the last three games, while the offense has struggled to regain the form it had a couple weeks ago.

“It was a tough game for both teams, not too many opportunities,” Devils forward Tomas Tatar said. ”That goal with three seconds left didn’t help us and we couldn’t score another one. … Teams come here now and know what to expect. Hopefully this makes us stronger.”

With the game tied at one, Roope Hintz snuck the puck past goalie Akira Schmid with less than two seconds remaining in the second period to put the Stars up 2-1. They would never look back, netting on a pair of empty net goals late in the third period.

Meanwhile former Devil Scott Wedgewood made things very hard on his old team recording 35 saves in goal to keep the Devils at bay. Wedgewood was drafted by the Devils in 2010 and spent three seasons in Jersey. He stopped 19 of 20 shots in the second period, and stopped all ten shots against him in the third period.

“I spent a lot of time here, a place that is near and dear to my heart,” Wedgewood said about returning to New Jersey. ”It went my way tonight. It was huge for us to weather the storm, go into the third period with a lead and hold it.”

The Devils host the Flyers on Thursday night.
