The New York Mets stunned the baseball world when at around 2:30 in the morning, Wednesday when word came down from Jon Heyman of the New York Post that the Mets swung an 11th hour deal with Carlos Correa on an 12-year $315 million deal, spurning his previous agreement with the San Francisco Giants.

Last week Correa had a deal in place with the Giants at 13-years, $350 million. It was believed at the time, the Mets — who had interest in Correa — were out. Steve Cohen even publicly lamented losing out on Correa. Then word came down Tuesday that the introductory press conference for Correa was postponed.
“The Associated Press subsequently reported that an undisclosed medical concern arose during Correa’s physical examination, but people throughout the industry who spoke to ESPN still believed the deal would be finalized.”
It was never finalized. Steve Cohen Swooped in, and Correa is now a member of the blue and orange. Correa will move over to third base to play along side his fellow countryman and friend Francisco Lindor, a desire that Correa reportedly had when free agency began.
Reaction online was at a fever pitch.
