It was more than just your ordinary 2-1 victory. The New York Mets topped the Los Angeles Dodgers in a game that felt a lot like a postseason game considering the intensity of the contest, the size of the crowd, and some of the spectacular moments that made the last day of August a memorable one.
Starling Marte gave the Amazin’s an early 2-0 lead on a two-run homer in the third inning, and Jacob deGrom would do the rest, holding a potent Dodgers lineup to just a run on three hits over seven innings, including nine strikeouts. deGrom improved to 4-1 on the year, and lowered his ERA to 1.98.
However, the biggest play of the game came in the seventh inning when it appeared that LA’s Justin Turner got a hold of a deGrom fastball and was about to shoot it over the center field wall, that was until Brandon Nimmmo lept of the ground and made a perfectly timed jump to rob Tuner of the homer.
