NEW YORK, NEW YORK - AUGUST 31: Brandon Nimmo #9 of the New York Mets makes a catch at the wall on a ball off the bat of Justin Turner of the Los Angeles Dodgers in the seventh inning at Citi Field on August 31, 2022 in New York City. (Photo by Jim McIsaac/Getty Images)

It was more than just your ordinary 2-1 victory. The New York Mets topped the Los Angeles Dodgers in a game that felt a lot like a postseason game considering the intensity of the contest, the size of the crowd, and some of the spectacular moments that made the last day of August a memorable one.

Starling Marte gave the Amazin’s an early 2-0 lead on a two-run homer in the third inning, and Jacob deGrom would do the rest, holding a potent Dodgers lineup to just a run on three hits over seven innings, including nine strikeouts. deGrom improved to 4-1 on the year, and lowered his ERA to 1.98.

However, the biggest play of the game came in the seventh inning when it appeared that LA’s Justin Turner got a hold of a deGrom fastball and was about to shoot it over the center field wall, that was until Brandon Nimmmo lept of the ground and made a perfectly timed jump to rob Tuner of the homer.

And that’s not all. Come the ninth inning it was time for Timmy Trumpet to play the opening of Narco as Mets closer Edwin Diaz came rolling out for the ninth inning save. Trumpet was supposed to do this on Tuesday night, but the Mets lost 3-2. He decided to stay one more night and it was so worth it!!
