Matt Harvey announced his retirement from baseball on Friday, ending a career that started out with so much promise, earning the moniker “The Dark Knight” for his bulldog mentality on the mound for the New York Mets.

Unfortunately for Harvey, his career ended after years of both under performance, personal issues both on and off the field, and a suspension by Major League Baseball for distributing a prohibited drug.

His final shot on the mound came with Team Italy this part March in the World Baseball Classic.

While things weren’t always rosy for Harvey. He still gave Mets fans plenty of good memories before departing the team during the 2018 season.

Matt Harvey was at the peak of his powers in Game 5 of the 2015 World Series. He held the Kansas City Royals scoreless for eight innings, dazzling the Citi Field crowd. It looked like New York would be on its way back to KC for Game 6, until Terry Collins agreed to leave Harvey in for the ninth. That’s when things imploded for New York, and the rest is history.
