Weeks before making her way to Flushing, Queens, New York for the 2022 US Open, Serena Williams announced that she has plans to “evolve” from tennis. Well, as it turns out those plans of a potential retirement were put on hold as the 40-year old Williams staged what some considered an upset of second seeded Annett Kontaviet 7-6 (4), 2-6, 6-2 to advance in the Open.

The match drew a 2.7 million rating on ESPN, and over 29,000 people packed the Billie Jean King Tennis Arena to watch the superstar perhaps for the final time. But, instead she gave fans a reason to cheer even more.
