New Jersey Is Filled With The Best Gas Station Food Chains
How often do you pull into a rest stop to fill up the tank based on how good the food is at this location? Well, according to a new report by USA Today’s 10BEST, New Jersey is a state filled with the best gas station food, as many of the chains they highlighted have stops here.
10BEST says of these places, “They’re serving up delicious food and snacks that make them destinations in and of themselves, from fried chicken and pizza to organic salads and veggie burritos.”
To first set the stage here, 10BEST named the following gas station brands among the best: TravelCenters of America, Kwik Check, Rutter’s, and Casey’s. The top-ranked chain was Royal Farms.
Best Gas Station Food In New Jersey
We will find many of these best gas station food stops throughout the state. Of course, you can’t think of gas station marts without mentioning WaWa. Somehow, this chain did not make 10BEST’s list. There are 288 WaWa’s in the state, according to ScrapeHero’s data. That translates to New Jersey having the most WaWa locations in the country, as 27% of their total stores are in the Garden State.
In fact, when Mashed did a feature on the best gas station food in every state, WaWa was the selection for New Jersey, calling out their classic club sandwich specifically. “One of the key reasons why people love Wawa is that it makes fresh, delicious subs that are portable, tasty, and pretty healthy,” Mashed said.
QuickChek, which ranked 7th, also has a strong New Jersey presence with 154 stores here. Certain areas, like Piscataway, have four locations in their region alone.
However, let’s focus on the chains 10BEST highlighted for having the best gas station food. There are 16 Royal Farms locations in New Jersey. They were applauded for having great breakfast options “in addition to other hot food menu items, including sandwiches, burgers, hot dogs, and their popular fried chicken,” 10BEST said.
Since Royal Farms was awarded the number one spot, let’s highlight what to get here. Among the convenient things you can do here, like get a car wash, grab a coffee, and get gas, they categorize their snack options as “Fresh Food.”
Among those items is their “world famous” fried chicken. Royal Farms describes this as “Hand-breaded with our famous spice blend, pressure cooked in small batches around the clock, and always fresh and hot!” If you add a side order of the hand-cut western wedge fries, you have a tasty and hearty meal to eat before you head back out on the road.
The Kitchn recently detailed the best gas station snacks, as did TimeOut. Both featured a collection of candy, chips, and pretzels as items that can “fuel you at the same time as your car.” With New Jersey having many of these best gas station food chains, we can opt to fuel up with a full meal in replace of or addition to just a snack.
