Looking ahead of Detroit, San Francisco Championship Game
San Francisco escapes an upset bid by beating Green Bay 24-21. Detroit still looks to have an answer for everything as they beat Tampa Bay 31-23.
San Fran did not play their best game at all last week, especially Brock Purdy. Until the last drive, he was all over the place and could not get the ball to his receivers. With Deebo Samuel listed as questionable but trending to play the offense will have to go through Christian McCaffrey. With a good run blocking scheme McCaffery finds gaps in the defense and explodes out of them.
He scored twice on big runs that helped his team get here. On defense, they will need to figure out a way to keep a lid on the run game. Detroit can do as they please with two good running backs in David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs and a San Fran team that has trouble against the run. Detroit has playmakers that make things happen. They have to shut down the middle of the field and take away the easy looks for Goff.
Detroit played well against Tampa Bay. The passing game was great Jared Goff got the ball to his playmakers Amon-Ra St. Brown and Sam LaPorta. Usually, the run game would feature Montgomery more but last week it was Gibbs.
Detroit has an offense with a lot of weapons as well and this San Fran defense will have to cover the middle, get to Goff, plug the gaps, and set the edge. On defense make Purdy uncomfortable. Pressure him and make him throw in a hurry. Don’t let this offense set the tempo cause when they do they have you at their mercy.
Detroit is a popular upset pick and for good reason but, I think San Francisco can pull this out and make it back to the big game for the first time in four years.
