Major League Baseball Returns in Wee Hours for Local Fans
Yes, folks Major League Baseball is indeed back! Wait, you thought the season didn’t start until next Thursday? Well, you were wrong!
The Major League Baseball season began early this morning and you were probably busy doing one of the following: 1) Sleeping, 2) Taking a shower, 3) walking the dog, 4) taking out the garbage, 5) getting the kids (if you have kids) on the bus, 6) making breakfast, 7) running out the door to work, or 8) hopping onto your computer to work from home when all of sudden you see the score: DODGERS 5 – PADRES 2.
And… BAM reality hits harder than a slap from Will Smith!
Yes, baseball returned this morning. The LA Dodgers and San Diego Padres opened the regular season slate a week early as they are playing two games in Seoul, South Korea. It’s the first time Major League Baseball has ever played a game in South Korea.
The Dodgers won the game 5-2 thanks to a four-run rally in the top of the eighth inning as RBI hits by Mookie Betts and Shohei Ohtani padded the lead for LA in the late stages.
MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL GONE INTERNATIONAL
Of course this contest had a huge international flare to it. Not only from the standpoint of its location, but the game’s feature star: Ohtani. Perhaps the best Japanese player to play in the US (and that is not a knock at Ichiro Suzuki or Hideki Matsui at all), this was Ohtani’s debut for the LA Dodgers.
After inking a record setting deal in the off-season, all eyes are on Ohtani, who will not pitch this season, but will be available to DH. He didn’t disappoint.
Overall four players from Asia took part in the game. Ha-Seong Kim, a South Korean native made his return to his native land in a Major League Baseball uniform for the first time since joining the Padres four years ago.
NEW YORK YANKEES IMPACT!
Remember when the Yankees made that blockbuster trade for Juan Soto? One of those guys going back to San Diego in that trade was Johnny Brito. Well Brito was greeted rudely. He was charged with two runs, one earned, in a third of an inning. That 27.00 ERA doesn’t look too good right about now.
So yes, Major League Baseball is back. You may not have noticed. But it is back. Let the countdown to the Mets and Yankees opening games begin.
