New Dating Trends and Terms For 2024
Dating trends are always shifting. Match Group Company, in collaboration with the dating app Plenty of Fish, has released their annual list of dating trends. It sheds light on relationship behaviors anticipated in the upcoming year.
The dating app claims to have been at the forefront of popularizing dating trends for the last seven years. They mentioned that throughout the company’s campaign history, they have introduced close to 50 terms, which include previous viral trends like Main Character Energy, Infla-Dating, and Hesidating.
This year, Plenty of Fish conducted a survey with 6,000 of their members. They found that pop culture and TikTok trends will play a significant role in dating in 2024.
New dating trends and terms.
These dating trends shed light on the ever-evolving world of modern romance. First up, is “Rizz-colored glasses.” According to the dating app it’s a witty play on “rose-colored glasses,” with “Rizz” representing charisma. This trend captures the allure of falling for someone’s charismatic charm, only to realize that a genuine, lasting relationship may be unattainable.
Then there’s “VBD,” an abbreviation for “vision board dating.” They say it’s where people change their dating app location to match their potential future living situation, providing a sneak peek into their aspirations.
Next, they said “PMI,” standing for “premature intimacy.” This trend parallels the familiar “TMI” (too much information), highlighting the pitfalls of sharing too many personal details too early in a relationship.
“Thera-posing” enters the scene as the tendency to use excessive “therapy speak” and portray oneself as more evolved than actuality.
The term “Canon-bailing” made their list too. It encourages people to cultivate their own identities outside of a relationship, echoing the concept of putting oneself first and marking a pivotal turning point in life, similar to a “canon event.” This term gained popularity in the summer, partly thanks to the movie “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.”
Also expected to be a dating trend in 2024 is “Crypt-ick.” It represents the sensation of someone becoming “icky”because they become excessively fixated on a particular subject, especially cryptocurrency.
