It was a rough night for the New York Yankees, dropping Game 1 of the American League Championship Series 4-2 to the Houston Astros. Houston leads the best-of-seven series 1-0.

Justin Verlander dominated the Yankees lineup, holding New York to just a run on three hits over six innings, with 11 strikeouts. According to Statmuse, Verlander is now 5-1 with a 2.62 ERA in nine starts against the Bronx Bombers in the postseason.

Aaron Judge (0-for-4), Gleyber Torres (0-for-4), Matt Carpenter (0-for-4), and Josh Donaldson (0-for-3) were all held hitless.

Meanwhile, Houston gave Verlander all the run support he would need thanks a trio of solo homeruns supplied by Yuli Gurriel, Chas McComrick, and Jeremy Pena as Houston built a 4-1 lead in the middle innings.

On the flip side, New York’s pitching struggled. Jameson Tallion walked three, didn’t record a strikeout over 4.1 innings of work. Clark Schmidt was charged with two home runs in the sixth in an inning of work.
