The Yankees find themselves in a 3-0 series hole after getting blanked by the Houston Astros 5-0 in Game 3 of the American League Championship Series.

The Yankees managed only three hits on the evening, two of them coming in the ninth as the Yankees tried to mount some kind of a late rally. Astros Game 3 starter Christian Javier and four relievers held the Yanks to just one hit over the games first eight innings.

The signs of where this game was going was evident from the second inning when Harrison Bader and Aaron Judge misplayed a fly ball by Christian Vasquez. The next batter Chas McCormick cracked a two-run homer that just got over the right field wall to make it 2-0 Astros.

In the top of the sixth, Houston padded their lead with a three-run showcase. Vasquez, the former Red Sox catcher acquired at the deadline lined a two-run single to left-center that proved to be the back-breaker that put Houston up 5-0.

Gerrit Cole was charged with five runs, three earned over five innings of work. He was done in the sixth, removed for Lou Trivino who gave up all three runs in the inning that were charged to Cole.

Only one team in Major League history has stormed back from a 3-0 series deficit to win a best-of-seven series. That of course was the 2004 Boston Red Sox who did it at the expense of the Yankees.

It’s getting late early, and the reaction was pretty strong online.
