Rutgers 65 – Purdue 64

Rutgers has done it again! And in the process has given head coach Steve Pikiell the most memorable 300th career coaching win any head coach could ask for.

The Scarlet Knights once again have pulled off a monstrous upset of top ranked Purdue. And once again, the Scarlet Knights did it in the final seconds with the only difference being they were able to silent a sell out crowd at Purdue’s Mackey Arena in West Lafayette, Indiana.

The heroics came from senior guard Cam Spencer who drained the game winning three-pointer at the top of the key with 14 seconds remaining in regulation. The tray gave the Scarlet Knights a one-point lead, 65-64.

Purdue’s Brandon Newman proceeded to miss a three-pointer of his own with three seconds to go as Caleb McConnell came up with the rebound.

Rutgers had led for most of the night, carrying a 10-point lead into halftime. In the second half, Rutgers maintained its lead until Newman hit a three that gave the Boilermakers a slim 55-54 lead with 4:45 to go.

After Andre Hyatt tied it with a free throw, Paul Mulcahy gave Rutgers the lead back connecting on a jumper and sinking a foul shot to put RU up 58-55.

Rutgers would maintain a narrow 62-61 lead until there was 30 seconds left when Purdue’s Fletcher Loyer hit a three to put the Boilermakers up 64-62, setting up Spencer for the game winner for Rutgers.

Social Media went nuts after the Rutgers victory!
