That’s how you open a season. The Rangers enacted a little bit of revenge against the team that knocked them out of the Eastern Conference Finals last spring, by besting the Tampa Bay Lightning 3-1 at the Garden last night.

Veteran Mika Zibanejad led the way with a pair of goals, and Barclay Goodrow added his first goal of the season in the Rangers victory. Meanwhile reigning Vezina Trophy winner Igor Shesterkin picked up right where he left off last spring, stopping 26 shots and giving up only one goal all night.

“The way we played tonight is a lot how we want to play — to trust ourselves and trust the system.,” Zibanejad said. “We did a good job tonight and we have to keep doing that.”

With the victory, New York improved to 13-12-5 when opening the season at home.
