It’s pretty safe to say that after last February’s Super Bowl, the Los Angeles Rams and Cincinnati Bengals are not exactly best friends. Yet, oddly enough the two teams held a joint practice in preparation of a preseason game this weekend, and things — well — escalated.

Rams Pro Bowl Defensive End Aaron Donald found himself in the middle of a social media blitz after he was involved in a melee that broke out between the two teams. On video posted virtually everywhere, Donald is seen swinging a pair of Bengals helmets at Bengals players.

According to a report from ESPN, Donald became involved in the incident when Bengals right tackle La’el Collins was engaged in a pushing and shoving match with an unidentified Rams player. Once Collins started swinging all hell broke loose with Donald becoming the center of the action.

The practice was quickly stopped.

  • Social Media Catches Fire After Melee

Social media of course exploded with everyone wondering what had happened. The takes on Twitter ranged from absurd to calls for Donald to be suspended. The incident also drew comparisons to the Myles Garrett incident that took place a couple years ago in Cleveland when Garrett took the helmet of Pittsburgh Steelers back-up quarterback Mason Rudolph and smacked him in the head with it.

  • Is a suspension coming?

According to Tom Pelissaro of NFL Network, a suspension of Donald is not likely coming down from the League office, since it is the clubs that are responsible for joint practices.  Stay tuned…
