The Jets have been busy the past 24 hours since their 16-9 victory over the Denver Broncos. Shortly after the game word came down that running back Breece Hall was feared to have torn his ACL, an injury that would end his season.
Those fears were confirmed on Monday when it became official that Hall would miss the rest of the year with the ACL and meniscus tears. Later on Monday it was confirmed that offensive tackle Alijah Vera Tucker would miss the rest of the year with a torn triceps muscle.
None of this is good news for the Jets. Hall was one of the most dynamic young players in the League this year. He had already won two Rookie of the Week awards, and looked like a slam dunk for Rookie of the Year honors. On Sunday he gashed the Broncos for a 62-yard touchdown run, the only TD for the Jets all afternoon. Hall finished the season with 463 yards rushing, an average of 5.8 yards per carry.
Losing Alijah Vera-Tucker hurts even more. With Meckhi Becton already out for the year, Vera-Tucker was filling in at right tackle, left tackle, and guard positions through the first six weeks of the year. He is considered by many to be the most versatile offensive lineman to come out of last year’s draft class. His loss will be huge, especially in the passing game.
But the Jets were not done making news. On Monday night the Jets traded a conditional sixth round pick, that could become a fifth rounder, for speeding running back James Robinson via the Jacksonville Jaguars. Robinson broke out his rookie year, rushing for over 1,000 yards, but has seen his play decline since. He has 340 yards rushing this year, and didn’t get a carry against the New York Giants last week.
If it wasn’t the Yankees it was the Jets that Twitter was talking about yesterday!
