One of the best pastimes for the Christmas season is gathering with your favorite people, food, or even pets and watching movies for the holiday season. But if you’re wondering what to watch, Netflix released the top ten most popular films just before Christmas!

How many did you expect to see here and who knows maybe some of these recent releases have gone under your radar. Without further ado, here’s Netflix’s top ten films in the US for the week of the 12th.

  • 10. The Noel Diary (2022)

This 2022 Rom-Com is the latest in the line of your typical going to fall in love for Christmas story about a man who has come home to handle the passing of his mother only to make a discovery that leads him down a journey to find out more about his past where he meets the love of his life. This film has spent four weeks in the top ten with over five million hours watched.

  • 9. Scrooge: A Christmas Carol. (2022)

Another retelling of the classic Christmas story featuring Ebenezer Scrooge and his last chance to set things in his life right, despite scoring low on Rotten Tomatoes, viewers find the film enjoyable. it’s managed to hold on in the top ten for three weeks compared to the other films based on the story. I don’t actually mind the animation style and it has nice twists while keeping to the source material.

  • 8. Falling For Christmas (2022)

Anddddd we’re back on track with your now falling in love Christmas movie, though of all those on this list this movie has spent the longest in the top ten for Netflix going on five weeks now with over six million hours watched. I’m not a fan of these types of movies, but I get why people like them. This one sees an amnesia-diagnosed heiress, she is in the care of a cabin owner and his daughter.

  • 7. How The Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)

Now we’re talking about classic Christmas movies, well this film is one of my personal favorites, and I believe it is the best Grinch adaptation. Over seven million hours watched seeing Jim Carrey’s heart grow three sizes is always a treat for viewers in the mood for the holly and in the Grinches case the not-so-jolly.

  • 6. The Volcano: Rescue From Whakaari (2022)

Now I can’t even call this switching gears. This is switching cars entirely as we go from holiday cheer to a rescue documentary about the Whakaari Volcano eruption that occurred in 2019. This is its first week in the top ten, but has nearly nine million hours watched and has high viewer and critic ratings.

  • 5. Lady Chatterley's Lover (2022)

Moving onto the top five we have a drama about a woman having an affair with the gamemaster after her husband comes home from the war. She discovers more about herself, but the film did land itself in a bit of controversy over the explicit nature of the film.

  • 4. Bullet Train (2022)

This is no Die-Hard Christmas movie, but it is action-packed as Brad Pitt faces off against equally skillful and lethal adversaries aboard the fastest train. All so he can do his job in peace after his past jobs have had too many mistakes. I’ve never seen Bullet Train, though as an action lover I can see why it’s ranked 4th with over thirteen million hours watched.

  • 3. Prisoners (2013)

Now I love Hugh Jackman, so seeing him as a distraught father in search of his missing daughter is. It brings out the emotions and despite it not being a heartwarming Christmas tale, I’m happy to see it a part of the big three with nineteen million hours watched.

  • 2. I Believe in Santa (2022)

For our last two on the list, we are back to holly and jolly with this recent release as actress Christina Moore learns her boyfriend is obsessed with the holiday season contradicting her disdain for it. Rough 20 million hours were watched for this Christmas Romcom.

  • 1. Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio (2022)

Now, this film slipped under my radar, but it is an amazing animated retelling of the story of the eighth wonder of the world Pinocchio. With stars like Ewan McGregor, David Bradley, and Tilda Swinton, and much more all with Del Toro’s vision this is a no-brainer for being in first place with nearly forty million hours watched. I think it’s clear this will be a top contender next week as well.

Though what are you watching for the holiday season? And how many of these films have you either watched or now will now watch?
