Anthony Volpe who starred with the Somerset Patriots last summer is taking his hacks at the Yankees short stop position, which figures to be a logjam to begin with.

Volpe is doing battle with Oswald Peraza, Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Gleyber Torres for the starting short stop job in Yankees camp. The Yankees have a tough decision to make. The assumption is that Torres will slide over to second base leaving D.J. LeMahieu -- who is coming off a foot injury -- out of position as a back-up.

Peraza and Vlope were ranked 1 and 2 in the Yankees farm system. Both have spent time in Somerset. Peraza was with the Patriots in 2021 where he hit .295 with 12 homers and 40 RBI. He was in Triple-A last season, and was called up to the major's as contributor toward the end of the 2022 season.

Volpe, the apple of the eye of plenty of Yankees fans, since he is a Jersey boy, hit .251 with 18 homers and 60 RBI last season with the Somerset Patriots.
