Rutgers Women’s Hoops Stumble vs. Maryland
Unable to cash in on the momentum they built on Saturday following a stirring 71-70 win on the road at Nebraska, the Rutgers women’s basketball team fell short against Maryland 67-59 at Jersey Mike’s Arena on Tuesday.
The Scarlet Knights erased an 18-point second-half deficit in the fourth quarter, but couldn’t find enough offense down the stretch to finish off the comeback.
A pair of three-pointers by Rookie of the Week Jillian Huerter, and buckets by Destiny Adams, Kassondra Brown, and Lisa Thompson brought Rutgers to within three points of Maryland, but the Terrapins were too strong off the glass.
Maryland outrebounded Rutgers 48-37, and were a plus-six in the turnover department (16 turnovers for Maryland vs. 22 by Rutgers).
Destiny Adams led all scorers with 22 points for Rutgers as she dominated the Scarlet Knights. Lisa Thompson finished with 11 points and Huerter finished with nine points and three boards.
Rutgers (7-18, 1-11) will hit the road once again for Michigan to face the Wolverines on Saturday at 2 p.m.
