Aaron Rodgers has emerged from another darkness retreat, and he has decided that he will indeed sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers, ending months of speculation to the same.
Oh, and if you didn't need any more fuel to the proverbial fire, Rodgers' first game in black and gold will be against his most recent former team: the New York Jets in Week 1 at MetLife Stadium, September 7.
The Rodgers drama had started to hit ridiculous levels, even for the normally buttoned-down Steelers. For weeks, Rodgers dragged the entire sports media world along for another ride of indecision, as he weighed his options.
There were rumors he was waiting out the Vikings on J.J. McCarthy; reports that he was taking care of a private matter; video of Rodgers noodling Bears fans about Pittsburgh's upcoming game in Chi-town later this November; and of course, how about Terry Bradshaw?
Bradshaw ripped Rodgers a new one for leaving the entire team guessing what his next move would be, calling his potential signing in Pittsburgh a "joke."
Said Bradshaw: "That guy needs to stay in California. Go somewhere and chew on bark."
Welp, now Rodgers is back. He will join the Steelers this week and participate in minicamp, according to multiple reports.
Of course, with Rodgers now in the Steel City, fans will look to the schedule and will see two HUGE games that stick out like a sore thumb. September 7 at the New York Jets and October 26 against the Green Bay Packers, Rodgers' two former employers.
This could get interesting.
Rodgers harpooned Jets head coach Aaron Glenn during the off-season for flying him out to New Jersey only to tell the four-time MVP that New York was moving in another direction.
Glenn and the Jets, meanwhile, have been focused on the business of football only. Former Steelers quarterback Justin Fields has done well, according to beat writers in the Jets' voluntary OTAs, and the team has had perfect attendance in camp this year.
The October 26 games against the Packers will be nationally televised on Sunday Night Football on NBC. Rodgers will get a chance to enact some form of vengeance against a Packers team he felt gave up on him three seasons ago.
All one can say is: get your popcorn!
