Spencer Jones Named Eastern League Player of the Week Again
Yankees prospect Spencer Jones is at it yet again. For the second time this season, Jones has been named the Eastern League Player of the Week by the League office after a stellar showing against the Bowie Baysox.
Over the six games, Jones went 9-for-22 (.409) with two homers, nine RBI, five runs scored and six extra-base hits. During that timeframe, Jones led the Eastern League in total bases (19). The Patriots wound up winning four of six to keep themselves within striking distance of first place in the Eastern League’s second-half standings. Currently, they trail Portland by one game.
Perhaps the coronation for Jones’ second player of the week nomination came on Sunday afternoon when he went 3-of-4 with a homer and four RBI in Somerset’s 6-1 victory.
A first-round pick out of Vanderbilt in the 2022 Draft, Jones quickly shot up the charts on the Yankees prospect list, ranking number 2 overall, behind only Jaason Dominguez.
Selected to participate in the MLB All-Star Futures Game in July, Jones ranks among the Eastern League leaders this season with 58 RBI (3rd), 35 extra-base hits (T-4th), 55 runs scored (6th), 21 stolen bases (Tied -6th) and 150 total bases (5th).
His 13 home runs are tied for fourth most among Yankee’s minor leaguers this season, while his 58 RBI are second, and, his 86 hits are tied for fourth most.
Jones and Patriots host a critical series at home this week against the Binghamton Rumble Ponies at TD Bank Ballpark.
