New York Mets Offense Comes to Life Against Hated Braves
ATLANTA, GEORGIA - APRIL 11: Tyrone Taylor #15 of the New York Mets reacts after hitting a grand slam in the ninth inning against the Atlanta Braves at Truist Park on April 11, 2024 in Atlanta, Georgia.
The New York Mets appear to be finding a groove offensively. And what better way to do so than in a series against their arch-rivals, the Atlanta Braves?
The Mets rolled past Atlanta to the tune of 16-4 on Thursday, taking two of three in the mid-week series. Suddenly the Mets have won five of seven after an horrific 0-5 start, and are just 2.5 back of Atlanta in the NL East. Yes, it’s only April, but as much as people wanted to bury the Mets after their opening series against Milwaukee, they have shown some life ever since.
Maybe they can make something of this season after all.
In the three games against Atlanta, the Mets scored 29 runs, that after struggling to score 25 runs over their previous nine games heading into the series.
More importantly, the contributions are coming from all over.
Stars of the New York Mets’ Game:
- J.D. Stewart’s two-run bomb gave the Mets a 7-0 lead. He has now homered in two of the last three games for the Amazins.
- Brandon Nimmo stays red-hot at the plate. After collecting four hits on Monday, Nimmo racked up a pair of hits, drove in a pair, and scored twice. His RBI double in the second inning gave New York a 2-0 lead. He would later score on an error. Nimmo hit .556 in the three game series.
- Brett Baty is coming into his own both defensively and with the bat. He had another RBI single on Thursday and is hitting .311 on the year.
- Jeff McNeil and Francisco Alvarez both had huge days. McNeil had two hits and three RBI in the win, while Alvarez continued to rake with two more hits and two more RBI. Alvarez’s six RBI are now tied for the team lead with Baty.
- The exclamation point came from Tyrone Taylor — the same guy who provided the game-winning hit against Detroit a week ago, cracked a grand slam homer in the ninth inning to blow the game wide open!
The Mets face the Kansas City Royals this weekend at Citi Field. It’s KC’s first trip to Citi Field since the 2015 World Series. The Royals come in hot having won seven in a row. Dwight Gooden will also have his number retired on Sunday by the Mets.

25 Best Sports Anthems, Ranked
Sports Anthems: It’s amazing how they can move thousands and thousands of people all at once. Without a doubt, at least some of these songs on this list will be played at some point during MLB’s Opening Day.
Most sporting events without music nowadays just fall flat. An appropriate soundtrack is practically essential. Now, different sporting events often have different vibes. This can vary by the sport itself, the level of said sport or the region in which the sport is being played.
With this in mind, this list was crafted to have some surprises, yet also be overall universal. It’s trying to walk a very particular line of mass appeal and unexpectedness. Truth be told, this list of the best sports anthems walks that line rather brilliantly.

How This Best Sports Anthems List Was Determined
This author has been to her share of sporting events over the years. Regardless of the sport, there are just certain songs that are ubiquitous at sporting events. Whether it’s high school, minor leagues or the pros, these 25 songs deliver on at least one over more of these levels:
-Does the song help hype up a crowd?
-Does the song add a new, appropriate level of emotion to a sporting event?
-Does the song have a unique tie to a team/athlete, but can also transcend it?
-Does it have a universally recognizable hook?
-Has it been used in a sports movie, thus, increasing its reach to the general public?
Look, this list is far from scientific, but it sure is a lot of fun, which is the whole point of any list like this. Frankly, it was a lot of fun to put together. It’s even more fun to revisit when major sports events appear on the calendar, from Opening Day to the Super Bowl and everywhere in between.
From rock to hip hop to EDM to pop, here are the 25 best sports anthems, ranked.
