On the field, DeVito -- the kid from Cedar Grove, New Jersey, lead the Giants to an improbable 24-22 victory, spearheaded by a 57-yard drive in the final 1:50 of the contest to position the G-Men for Randy Bullock's game winning field goal. But it was more than that. DeVito has brought pizzazz and excitement to the Giants that had been lacking before.
A season once considered dead in the water is now interesting. If the Giants win out and get some help, and I mean A LOT of help, they could sneak into the playoffs.
And a major part of this turnaround is attributed to the Jersey kid who brings a lot of moxie and swag with him.
SCORING DRIVES:
DeVito was remarkable in the clutch.
With the G-Men trailing Green Bay 10-7 in the third quarter, DeVito scrambled for a 26-yard gain to the Green bay one-yard line, setting up Saquon Barkley with the go-ahead score.
Later, DeVito hit Wandell Robinson on a 25-yard flea flicker, which set up DeVito's touchdown pass to Isiah Hodgins to make it 21-13.
THE VIBE:
Not only is the on-field performance outstanding, but off the field the story has taken a life of its own.
As most know by now DeVito is living with his parents. His folks have become regulars at his games since taking over as Giants starting quarterback, and naturally, the DeVito family have become cultural icons.
DeVito's parents and entire extended family were in attendance celebrating with fans throughout the night. They were in the parking lot cutting chicken cutlets and soaking in plates of penne vodka during a tailgate. And according to FOX 5 reporter Tina Cervasio, Tommy's cousin, Danny DeVito -- not that Danny DeVito -- was doing the honors of preparing food for people.
Inside MetLife Stadium, DeVito's agent Sean Stellato, sporting a pinstripe suite and hat on the sideline with the quarterback in pregame also caught the attention of many from ESPN to social media adding even more fuel to the legend.
Stellato is later seen in the stands with DeVito's parents celebrating every Giants score.
It's hard not to root for the DeVito story to continue. It's a vibe that has captured the Garden State and Tri-State area.
