Maybe you’ve seen some Rite Aid stores closed in your area. Also, it’s not just a local thing. Rite Aid is closing around 100 locations across the U.S. I have good memories of going to Rite Aid to get random items, such as makeup or holiday decorations. So, it’s disheartening to hear of them closing. What’s more, the list of New Jersey Rite Aid stores closing is pretty long, and the full list is below.
Rite Aid has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, so they’re closing about 100 stores nationwide in conjunction with their restructuring efforts. Currently, the stores closing are in 12 states, and they include leased and owned stores, according to A&G Real Estate Partners. Furthermore, the states where Rite Aid stores are closing include California (17 stores), Maryland (4), Michigan (16), New Jersey (8), New York (17), Ohio (4), Oregon (2), Pennsylvania (17), New Hampshire (2) and Washington (10), Alabama (1), Idaho (1). Also, Rite Aid isn’t alone in its woes. Pharmacy chains have been struggling in the U.S., as they try to compete with online retailers such as Amazon, as well as chains such as Walmart, Target and Costco that are becoming more popular options to get medication.
What’s more, in a press release, Rite Aid said they plan to give employees at closing stores the ability to transfer to other locations “where possible.” Moreover, Rite Aid has 45,000 employees.
“Rite Aid has served customers and communities across our country for more than 60 years, and the important actions we are taking today will enable us to move ahead as a stronger company,” Jeffrey S. Stein, Rite Aid chief executive officer, chief restructuring officer and a member of their Board of Directors, said in a statement. Also, he added, “With the support of our lenders, we look forward to strengthening our financial foundation, advancing our transformation initiatives and accelerating the execution of our turnaround strategy.”
