Ex-Met Scherzer Nailed by Astros in Stinging ALCS Game 3 Loss

Former New York Mets starting pitcher Max Scherzer once again struggled in a postseason start.
Now a member of the Texas Rangers, Scherzer was believed to be lost for the year when he went on the injury list with a strained right shoulder in late August. After 36-days away from the mound, Scherzer returned, only to be greeted rudely by the Houston Astros.
Scherzer was charged with five runs on five hits over four innings of work. His postseason ERA reads 11.25. He even gave up a mammoth homer to Jose Altuve.
Since joining the Texas Rangers in August after he agreed to wave his no-trade clause with the New York Mets, Scherzer pitched a 3.20 ERA in eight starts in Texas. He had some good days, and a number of rough ones.
Over his last three postseason starts that date back to his brief time with the LA Dodgers in 2021, and last year’s wild card meltdown with the Mets last season, Scherzer has allowed 14 earned runs in 13 innings pitched. His postseason ERA in those three starts is 9.69.
He’s also failed to get out of the fifth inning in two of those outings.
Scherzer’s poor outing grabbed the attention of bitter Mets fans on social media, who trolled the former Cy Young Award winner.
The Astros 8-5 win over Texas now makes things very interesting in this best-of-seven ALCS, which Texas still leads 2-1.
