For the New York Liberty they can’t wait to get back to Las Vegas.
The Liberty face an 0-2 deficit in their best of five WNBA Finals series with the Las Vegas Aces after a 104-76 loss on Wednesday night. The Liberty must win Sunday afternoon to extend what has been a brilliant season.
Las Vegas dominated Game 2 from the outset. A 24-foot three-pointer from Kelsey Plum gave Vegas the early 3-0 lead. Before New York could blink it was 9-2 when Plum and Kiah Stokes hit a pair of long distance jumpers. Finally A’Ja Wilson rolled one in at the eight minute mark to make it 11-2.
Offensively, the Liberty just couldn’t get set. They were 1-for-11 to start the game from the floor, and with 5:19 to go in the opening quarter found themselves down 19-2.
Overall the Liberty connected on 36 percent of their shots from the floor, with only 22 percent coming from downtown. Compared to the Aces, who were on point all night. Las Vegas shot 53 percent from the floor in Game 2, and were a perfect 17-for-17 from the charity stripe.
Leading the way for New York was Jonquel Jones who powered the Liberty with 22 points and 10 boards.
It was a fairly quiet night for superstar Sabrina Ionescu who had 10 points on a 2-for-10 shooting night. In the two games combined, Ionescu is averaging eight points a game and is 4-for-17 shooting (23.5 percent).
Meanwhile for the Aces, A’Ja Wilson dropped down 26 points for Vegas; Jackie Young netted 24 points and Plum 23 points in the victory.
SERIES COMES TO NEW YORK
The series Shifts to Brooklyn’s Barclay’s Center on Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. In a way it will be a home coming of sorts for Aces coach Becky Hammon who began her WNBA career as a point guard for the Liberty back in 1999. The former San Antonio Spurs assistant, who has been in the running for NBA Head Coaching jobs in recent years, was ironically, in the running for the Liberty job two years ago.
Now, she gets a chance to win her second WNBA title as head coach of the Aces on the Big Apple stage.
How to Tell If You're in the 'Xennial Generation'
Anyone who was born on the cusp of a generation knows how frustrating it can be to figure out your generation’s traits. You don’t fit into one nice box. You might have traits from both generations. One of my family members is on the cusp on being a Baby Boomer and part of the Me Generation, and she’s always talking about how her whole life, she never really fit into the traits of either generations. Well, if you were born on the cusp of the Millennials and Generation X, then you are technically in the Xennial Generation.
But, there more to it than that. Read on for some very specific traits and memories that are specific to the Xennial Generation.
So, congratulations. You don’t fit in. But, who wants to fit in, anyway? You’re part of a microgeneration, teetering somewhere between Generation X and Millennials. But, you’re also unique, because you’ve experienced international events and experiences that both generations share.
Pew Research states that those in Generation X were born between 1965 and 1980. Millennials were born between 1981 and 1996. Xennials, however, were born between 1977 and 1983. It’s an interesting generation, because you were young when technology came out, such as computers, but you haven’t lived with this technology your whole life. In fact, Dan Woodman, sociology professor of the University of Melbourne, sums it up pretty well. “You have a childhood, youth and adolescence free of having to worry about social media posts and mobile phones,” he said (via mamamia.com.au). “It was a time when we had to organize to catch up with our friends on the weekends using the landline, and actually pick a time and a place and turn up there.”
So, how do you know that you’re really a Xennial? Of course, if you were born between 1977 and 1983, you’re one of them. But, read on for some additional trails. You might have some major “ah-ha” moments here. And, hey, wear your Xennial badge proudly. You’ve experienced it all.
