Daniel Jones “Feeling Better” Ahead of Giants Clash in Buffalo
The New York Giants are feeling “optimistic” that quarterback Daniel Jones will be healthy enough to play on Sunday night when the G-Men visit the Buffalo Bills in Orchard Park.
Jones sustained a neck injury in the Giants 31-16 loss to Miami on Sunday afternoon, and left the game in the fourth quarter after getting sacked six times.
“I’d say we’re optimistic,” coach Brian Daboll said. “He’s feeling better [Monday]. So, I think he’s moving in the right direction. See where he is, obviously, when he comes back on Wednesday.”
It has been a rough time of it this year for Jones. In the last two weeks combined, Jones has been sacked a total of 16 times.
In those two games, the Giants offense has scored a grand total of 12-points, all on field goals. Jones has had no time in the pocket, and it hasn’t helped that he is missing his security blanket in left tackle Andrew Thomas who has been injured, and running back Saquon Barkley (ankle).
According to ESPN, the Giants haven’t scored an offensive touchdown in 2-1/2 games.
Jones has been pressured 44 percent of the time this season, also according to ESPN.
Meanwhile, critics continue lining up to blast Jones and the Giants.
Many, including Fox Sports’ Colin Cowher have suggested that the Giants should move on from the embattled quarterback and draft another player at the position.
It would be easier said than done of course. The Giants inked Jones to a four-year $160 million deal.
Jones is scheduled to make $47 million in 2024, and the Giants do not have an out of the contract until 2025 that contains a $22 million dead cap hit.
