The 94th Annual Major League Baseball All-Star Game is now in the rearview mirror, and let's be honest one thing that was abundantly clear from the contest is this: people HATE the All-Star Game uniforms.
For years, decades even, the All-Star Game was about the pageantry of seeing some of the best to play the game at that given moment come together to partake in a clash of Titans sort-a-speak, and fans would get a chance to see every single team represented. Long before the infusion of interleague play, it was very rare to see players from the opposing leagues next to one another on the same field at the same time.
Take this shot of Tim Raines in a Montreal Expos uniform standing next to Mark McGuire in an Oakland A's uniform as an example.
There was something cool about seeing your a player on your favorite team go up against players from the opposing league. It was something you didn't always see -- even in the early days of Interleague play.
That changed dramatically in 2021 when baseball introduced the location themed uniforms that you saw last night in Seattle. The reaction has been very polarizing. Here a few below!
Even with the National League winning 3-2 off a home run by Colorado's Elias Diaz, you wouldn't have known he was a member of the Colorado Rockies and became the first Colorado player to win the All Star MVP unless someone told you. Guess the All-Star Game -- like interleague play -- is getting a little stale.
