The Yankees head into the Major League All-Star Break having lost a series to the lowly Chicago Cubs.
Behind a game-tying solo homer by Seiya Suzuki, the Cubs outlasted the Bronx Bombers 7-4, clinching the first EVER series win for the Cubs in the Bronx.
Suzuki added the game winning RBI with a Sac Fly in the top of the eighth scoring ex-Yankee Mike Tauchman to put the Cubs up 5-4.
The sac fly by Suzuki was the capstone of a six-run rally by Chicago in the final three innings of the game.
The Yankees built a 4-1 lead thanks to homers by Anthony Volpe and Kyle Higashioka.
Yankees starting pitcher Domingo German was sold through six innings, but the Yankee bullpen imploded in a crucial moment.
BULLPEN IMPLOSION
The problems started when Tommy Khanle gave up the lead allowing an RBI ground out to Jared Young, and a two-run single to Yan Gomes as the Cubs knotted things up a four.
The runs were charged to both German and Ian Hamilton.
Meanwhile in the eighth inning, Ronnie Marinaccio ran into big trouble giving up a single to Tauchman and walking a pair of Cubs to load 'em up for Suzuki.
Later in the frame, Clay Holmes wound up giving up the running scoring sacrifice. Holmes would later toss a wild pitch to bring in Nico Hoerner to make it 6-4 Cubs.
Tucker Barnhart closed out the scoring with a RBI double in the ninth.
Missing Offense
Despite their 11 hits on the day, the Yankees stranded three runners on base in the final three innings of the game.
The Yankees finished 2-for-10 with runners in scoring position.
WHERE THE BOMBERS STAND
At 49-42, the Yanks stumble into the All-Star break eight games out of first place; a game behind Toronto for the final Wild Card spot, and with the Boston Red Sox only a game behind them for fourth place in the AL East.
