Amber Heard wants the same second chance her ex-husband Johnny Depp got. A year after the end of her highly-publicized Virginia defamation trial with Depp, Heard retreated from the spotlight. Even though the Aquaman actress moved to Spain with her infant daughter, she has reemerged to promote her upcoming film, In the Fire. In a new interview with Deadline, Heard, 37, shared how she didn't want adversity to define her career.

Appreciated, Not Crucified

"You know, I just want to make movies and be appreciated as an actress," she told the publication. "I don't want to have to be crucified to be appreciated as one." However, Heard said that the focus may not always center on her projects. Coming to terms with what she is not in control of is how her pride in her latest project "can be surrounded by clips of other stuff." Knowing this is out of her hands, the actress even says stories other people create around her will be something that she'll probably "appreciate as a blessing further down the line."

As she continues to slowly return to the public eye, Heard prefers not to have "stones thrown at me so much." As she noted to Deadline, "I'm not telling you I have this amazing film career, but what I have is something that I've made myself, and it has given me a lot to be able to contribute." Since she began acting at 16, Heard says she has earned enough substantial respect in the industry. She proclaims that what she has been through "doesn't make my career at all. And it's certainly not gonna stop my career."

Heard returned to the red carpet on June 23 for the premiere of In the Fire at the Taormina Film Festival. She shared the "incredibly warm reception" to her return to the festival and to social media on Instagram. In a follow-up post, Heard thanked her fans and supporters. "I am so touched," she added.
