Commissioner Adam Silver told the public he would reveal Morant’s suspension after the NBA finals and the time has come.
ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski announced Ja Morant will be suspended for 25 games without pay to start the 2023-2024 season.
On May 13 Morant displayed a gun on Instagram live, less than two months after he was suspended for displaying a gun on Instagram in a Denver night club while intoxicated. The Denver incident led to him being suspended for eight games. Silver also had a talk with Morant after the incident back in March.
Morant will be eligible to play after his suspension is complete.
Silver added that Morant will have to take a program that addresses his reckless behavior.
In addition, Morant has to publicly apologize to the NBA, his teammates, the city of Memphis, and to his fans.
During the suspension Morant will lose $300,000 per game which is about $7.5 million. With the new CBA (Collective Bargaining Agreement) Morant will not be eligible for end of the season awards. A player must play 65 games to be eligible.
